Preaching and Teaching Ministry

The Ministry of the Word is very important at First Southern Baptist Church. Our worship service revolves around the preaching of the Word.  Much of my ministry is spent in the preparation and delivery of biblical sermons and lessons. I consider myself an expository preacher.  I love to spend time within a book and mine the truths for our people.  We have recently completed a series from Philippians.  It was such a blessing to read and preach from this book. In my sermons, I use stories, illustrations and the word to make the messages relevant and applicable to your life.

Sunday Morning Preaching Ministry is my focus in ministry.  Currently, we are walking through the Old Testament Book of Jonah. It is a beautiful book reminding us of God’s steadfast and loyal love for us.  Easter is April 21.  I’ll be preaching a series on the miracles leading up to Easter.  We’ll look into the Gospels and examine five miracles and then culminate with the greatest miracle of all, the Resurrection.  After Easter, we will walk through the letters of John to see how we can be assured of our salvation.  Can a person know they are saved?  If so, how?

Sunday Night – My Sunday evening ministry is focused on discipleship. Currently, we are studying Henry Blackaby’s Experiencing God.  It is a great reminder that God is active around us, continually working, desiring to be a love relationship with us, and asking us to join Him in His work.   On Sunday nights we are always looking for ways to grow our people into the Christ followers our Father is looking for.

Wednesday Night – 7:00 pm – We are slowly working our way through the Book of Hebrews.  We are going verse-by-verse to mine the great riches in this book.  This summer I’ll lead our people through the book of 1 Peter.  I’m still praying about what to teach this fall on Wednesday nights. I’m thinking about Revelations and looking at it from three different views.  We will see how God leads as we approach the Fall.
